Other Rules to Consider

Game Masters should be prepared to understand how to start a business from the Colonist Supplement Book Far Horizons and info on creating a Smuggling Ring from the Smuggler Supplement Book Fly Causual  At the end of the adventure the GM should allow the PCs to start their own business using the winnings and/or jewel if they are still in possession of them.

Review Player Adventure Logs

At the start of the game session before play a Game Master should ask players if they can see their adventure logs.  This will help you make adjustments to your story to consider what the players have done before.

  • Jewel of Yavin Act 1: Odds and Opportunities: Did the PCs convince Aris Shen to betray her father and run away from her Husband Vorse Tabarith to start a Smuggling Ring.
  • Jewel of Yavin Act 2: The Greatest Caper: Are the players currently in possession of the Jewel of Yavin and/or the credits from the winning bid?

How to Introduce the Characters

The Jewel of Yavin – Act 3: Escape to the Clouds is a direct follow-up to The Jewel of Yavin: The Greatest Caper & Odds and Opportunity.  Players who have already completed Act 1 & 2 of Jewel of Yavin would just be able to transition in to Act 3.  Reference their Adventure Log from Odds and Opportunity and The Greatest Caper to determine where they left off with the heist.  Did they get the Jewel?  Did they successfully transfer the credits? Did they turn Aris Shen against her father Arend Shen? and did they betray Arend Shen and send the money to THE BARON.

If a player has never played Jewel of Yavin Act 1: Odds and Opportunity or Jewel of Yavin Act 2: The Greatest Caper.  They should not play Act 3: Escape to the clouds.  For Act 3 represents escaping Cloud City after performing a heist.  If they were not working for Arend Shen and never pulled off the heist there is no one to run away from.

Mission Objectives

In Act 3: Escape to the Clouds you have several mission objectives that need to be completed to complete the adventure.

  1.  Locate and get Revenge on Arend Shen for betraying the party
  2. Escape Cloud City

In addition to the mission objectives detailed here. The Game Master may incorporate additional Faction Mission Objectives from Season 1:

  • Hutt Kajidics: If a player has tied their character to the Vanderijar Hutts they are motivated to have Kaltho the Hutt win the auction and end up with the winnings.  This is a faction based goal.

Ways to Expand the Adventure

In Jewel of Yavin: Act 3: Escape to the Clouds there are many avenues the PCs can exercise to escape Cloud City.  A GM is encouraged to run the events in the following order so that PCs can encounter all of the thrilling encounters in the game:

  • The PCs escape the Museum and head to the get away vehicle only to have Arend Shen’s betrayal come apparent.
  • The PCs choose to enter the Starport or get their Revenge.  If the PCs follow the route of the Starport they can retreat back into the city and still experience the Revenge part of the adventure.  This will maximize the PCs total encounters allowing them to experience the entire adventure.
  • The Starport: With so many parties against them the PCs attempt to escape the City through the Commerical Star Docks. While chased by Aris Shen and her goons along with Grayson’s Security Team.  Trapped in the starport they musty battle in the Holo Park for any hope to escape.  Here the PCs may retreat from the starport back into the city and gain 10 obligation.  Retreating back to get their revenge is the preferred method to ensure the PCs get to experience all encounters.  If the PCs make it all the way to a starship they must disconnect the starship’s magnetic lock or boot with a Formidable check that has 2 challenge dice upgrades added.  If they succeed they may end the adventure.
  • The Revenge: With no options left the PCs are forced to choose between going honest and turning themselves in or attempting to get revenge on Arend Shen.
  • The PCs capture Arend Shen’s star yacht the Venture and use it to flea to the clouds.  The PCs get pursued by the Wing Guard.  The GM is encouraged to expand this encounter and allow the PCs to have an exciting chase sequence where the PCs travel into the Tabanna Gas mines and must fly through a cluster of floating refineries in their attempt to escape.
  • Add a social encounter at Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana with The BARON discussion their success.  The BARON brings the PCs on full time in his operations in the underworld and will allow the GM to greatly reduce the PCs total obligation.  Hand out XP and Rewards.

Escape to the Clouds Story Elements

Story Elements are to be documented on the Player Character’s Adventure Logs as proof of what story elements they have completed during game play.

Did the PC’s attempt to escape through Cloud City’s Commercial Starport and through the Holopark and did they loose those to are pursuing them? Did the PCs convince Aris Shen to betray her father and become a contact for the party?

Were the PCs able to track down Arend Shen and get their Revenge for him attempting to betray the party? Did Arend Shen Survive?

Did the PCs Steal Arend Shen’s Luxury Yacht the Venture and did they escape Cloud City’s wing guard pursuers? The the PCs head to Takodana and turn the Jewel of Yavin over to The BARON?

Did the PCs turn themselves in to the Wing Guard and speak to Lando Calrissian attempting to turn Arend Shen in for his crime?

The GM should detail out what happens to the Jewel of Yavin.

Turning the Jewel over to The BARON will allow the PCs to join his organization. As an Agent of THE BARON he will make sure that he leverages his operation to help them reduce their obligation. By giving him the Jewel he will reduce the total party’s obligation by 50 points. The PCs can determine how this is divided but it should be done equally. Furthermore no PC can remove their obligation completely. PCs should always have a minimum of 5 total obligation. Secondly, if the PCs in Act 2 transferred the sliced funds into The BARON’s account he will split the earnings among the PCs keeping 2 shares for his operation (1 share for the baron’s intelligence network and 1 share for his Rebel Cell interests earning the Arda Base a free base upgrade in the process)

Turning the Jewel over to Lando will result in the PCs ability to reduce their total obligation by 50 to a minimum of 5 obligation. However, the PCs will not earn any payout of the sliced funds. Turning the Jewel over to Lando will also encourage a GM to run the Hangover bonus adventure as the next session. Furthermore, by sticking around cloud city with Lando the PCs will be able to collect the 30,000 in earnings from winning the Cloud City Grand Prix which is divided among the PCs

Turning the Jewel over to a third party has a few options. The PCs can try to sell the Jewel to a fence and earn 10,000 credits to be split among the party. Furthermore, they can track down one of the former bidders and attempt to sell the Gem to them. They cannot sell the Gem to the end high bidder as they stole that bidder’s money. Kaltho the Hutt will pay 50,000 credits and Pos Podura will pay 20,000 credits for the Gem. Finally if the PCs give the Gem to Elaiza she will use it to repair her lightsaber and become a Mentor for the party. If you attempt to sell the Gem to a third party the PCs will loose and and all shares earned from the sliced funds.

Any cash payout above 5,000 credits may be used by the PCs to attempt to purchase a personal starship (If they have the funds to do so), Further pay off or reduce obligation (5,000 credits for 5 obligation), or the earnings may be used to start a business or smuggling ring which the PCs may profit from in the future. If the PCs earn over 5,000 credits they must select one of these options and note it on their adventure log. They will in the end earn a total of 500 credits. This is to ensure that the game stays balanced.
