Prepping the Adventure

Read the Module

When reading the Jewel of Yavin Module it is important that you read not only Act 1 Odds and Opportunity but also read Act 2 the Greatest Caper.  The reason you need to read both chapters is because much of the information you read about the bidders during the investigation in Act 1 is expanded upon in Act 2.

Other Rules to Consider

Running the Investigation:  It is recommended that you also take a look at the “Running an Investigation” rules found in the Bounty Hunter Supplement Book, No Disintigrations pg. 75, but also in the Sentinal Supplement Book, Endless Vigil pg. 80.

Urban Environments: It is recommended that you also take a look at the “Bringing Urban Environments to Life” rules in Endless Vigil pg. 66.

Cloud City Grand Prix Race: it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with competative checks and starship rules found in the Edge of the Empire Core Rule Book.

    Review Player Adventure Logs

At the start of the game session before play a Game Master should ask players if they can see their adventure logs.  This will help you make adjustments to your story to consider what the players have done before.

    • Enemy of my Enemy Act 1: Crime in the Clouds: in this module the players have a run in with ISB agent Marek Quay. If the party have run a foul of Marek Quay then you should tie this ISB agent to, Zekra Fol the ISB Agent in the Module.
    • Mountain Top Rescue: If the players have participated in the Dawn Temple series of adventures then they may want to destroy or hide evidence of the existance of the Temple which is featured in an exibit in the Museum.

    How to Introduce the Characters

The Jewel of Yavin – Act 1: Odds and Opportunities acts as the opening adventure for the Edge of the Empire storyline in Legends of the Galaxy.  To make this adventure fit into Legends of the Galaxy the Game Master should begin the adventure with the PCs on the planet of Takodana at Maz Kanata’s Castle.  The PCs are there looking for work.  The GM should explain to the PCs that Maz Kanata has a few rules.  1) Anyone who comes to Maz’s castle will be provided with 1 free meal and 1 free nights stay.  2) There will be no fighting while at Maz’s castle.  Maz’s castle is neutral ground.  Even enemies may come here to share a drink.  3) Any business dealings must gain Maz’s seal of approval before than can go into effect.

Maz will introduce to PCs to a shadowy figure.  A Kel dor draped in a dark cloak putting shadow on his face.  He speaks in a booming deep tone.  He is, THE BARON.  The Baron will act as the PCs primary contact throughout the Legends of the Galaxy Storyline.  In the Jewel of Yavin Adventure Series the BARON wants the PCs to travel to Cloud City and perform the Jewel Heist for Aren Shen.  However, the BARON needs the Jewel of Yavin for funding his own enterprises and he instructs the PCs to double cross Aren Shen and to steal the Jewel for himself.  Furthermore, the BARON runs an intelligence network.  So any information that can benefit the BARON would be useful.  The baron seeks intelligence on underworld figures, Imperial activities, and information on people, artifacts, or locations related to the FORCE.

If the PCs agree to work with THE BARON he will assist them with reducing their obligations.  THE BARON will further promise that if they continue to work with him, the PCs will see promise and reward beyond what they can imagine.  This will award the PCs THE BARON as a contact.  During any adventure a PC can always flip a light side destiny token to all upon THE BARON for helpful insight and guidance with completing any Adventure.

    Mission Objectives

In Act 1 of the Jewel of Yavin you have several mission objectives:

    1. Perform research on the individual bidders at the upcoming auction. Learn as much as you can about them to manipulate them during the gala in Act 2.
    2. Investigate the museum security measures and security team to identify ways to perform the heist in Act 2.
    3. Plan how to go about the heist and collect all necessary gear.
    4. Setup a slicing shop to help steal credits from the auction’s winning bidder.
    5. Get to know the racers of the Cloud City Grand Prix
    6. Modify/prepare your speeder to race.
    7. Win the Cloud City Grand Prix to gain an invite to the gala.

      Ways to Expand the Adventure

The Museum: When the PCs go to investigate the Museum please note that one of the exhibits in the Museum is that of an ancient Jedi Temple known as the Dawn Temple.  This is a great way to foreshadow and setup the Force and Destiny storyline in Mountain Top Rescue.  It is how THE BARON first learns of the temple and in turn sends his ally Hethan Romund to investigate.

Running the Investigation into the Bidders:  After the Players have rolled on the table and learned some starting information about each of the bidders Game Masters should be prepared to visit the locations and create encounters to expand the adventure.  This is where the running an investigation rules will help.

Hutt Turf War:  Furthermore, if the PCs slight Kaltho the Hutt in any way note this on the adventure log as it can come into play during the Hutt Turf War in Future Stories of Legends of the Galaxy.
